I've heard various things about the different brands out there. What is your experience with the following tool chests/tool storage cabinets?

1) Craftsman
2) Snap-On
3) Husky
4) Kobalt
5) Lista
6) Others?

I think it would be interesting to hear your opinions on the quality vs. price tradeoff and how you made your decision.

I have personal experience with Craftsman, and SnapOn. If you need a good quality box, for a "Reasonable" price, then it's Craftsman all the way. If you want a box which will last your lifetime, with liquid smooth drawer operation, spend the extra money, and buy the SnapOn boxes as you can afford them ! Just my humble .02 !

Do you have to purchase Snap-on tools through a dealer?

I hear they are kind of expensive, but what would one expect to pay for a typical setup?

You might find someone locally that restores Snap-on boxes. I bought one from a local Snap-On distributor that he had repo'd. He and I became friends and I would buy a lot of the stuff he repo'd. I sold it back (at the same price) when I moved.

Snap-On boxes are somewhat bullet-proof, but several years of heavy usage (and the mechanic moving around a heavy loaded box) can take its toll.

A hobbyist can usually be satified with the better of the Craftsman series, unless you just want the status or resale value. There's a coolness factor too. :D

I use the Craftsman "roller bearing" tool boxes...nothing but praise for them!

Last year I bought the stainless steel box called hammerhead that is a sweet box for the money... it is built tough. I was impressed:D and I almost got the craftsman pro series box cause I am a sucker for black.... If you know where I can get a used snap-on wall hanging chest that would be great.... :)

Here's mine... Craftsman Roller Bearing...Made in the USA, and works as good as any Snap On for what I need it for, plus it was under 500.00 complete with all 3 sections brand new.

I have the same setup in black. Except in my case, I got the roller cabinet a year before the intermediate and top chest so they are griplatch and the base cabinet is not. I am pleased with the quality.

Is that a Gladiator cabinet off on the right?

Does anyone have experience with that product line?
