Hi all, stumbled on this site thanks to "Administrator" and I do mean thanks. He posted a link on the Corvette Forum which led me here. I'm not sure which is my greater passion, cars or building. I haven't been able to figure out if the garage is the biggest mod to the car, or the car the biggest mod to the garage. I got a Corvette first, so maybe the garage is the mod to the car, although I really live to improve the garage. Then again, I got a nicer Corvette to put in the garage after the basic structure was complete, so maybe it is the car is the mod to the garage.
I'm one of the lucky ones in life as I love my job, carpentry. It seems I just can't build enough! Thanks to help from many friends I was able to build my garage myself without any outside contractors. Although I look forward to finding answers to my garage questions, I hope I can be an asset to this forum with my construction knowledge. I have been building things since I was able to hold a hammer, and I have made construction my career for the last 32 years if you count summers earning my way through college. Graduated and just couldn't give it up.
If you want to see some pics, I need help. I enjoy seeing those posted by others, but have no idea how to post mine. Be warned, I'm not a photographer and I'm a bit hung up on Corvettes. Point me in the right direction if you dare. Thanks!!!

Welcome!
We're always on the lookout for someone with construction knowledge.
Do you do residential or commercial construction?
Tell us about your Corvette(s) as well!

I'm a carpenter specializing in commercial concrete construction, but also have considerable experience in residential construction from the structural standpoint, foundation and framing. My garage structure is simple and basic due to economic considerations and property limitations.
I have attempted to attach a few photos of the garage and the cars. I wish I could say all three cars are mine, but only the yellow Z06 belongs to me. The silver 'vert is my brother-in-law's and the 911 is my father-in-law's. Here are the links to the pictures for anyone interested:

Oh yeah, the garage is only 800sf, but its not how big you make it, but how you make it big. Or something like that!

That is a great garage. Where did you get the diamond plate for the "lounge" area?

Sorry for being so slow to reply, I'm very lacking when it comes to typing and staying on top of posting. In regards to the diamond plate, I have a friend with a sheet metal business who takes care of my "metal needs". The diamond plate is 1/8" aluminum and he sized it for me into 8" strips from a 4' X 10' sheet in his shop. It is possible to cut it with an ordinary circular saw without too much difficulty, as I cut a few pieces on my own to trim my garage's fireplace (actually twice because I wasn't happy with round one's design). If memory serves me well it was just under $100 for the 4x10 sheet. It sells by weight and I'm guessing the price fluctuates. I'm sure he would help point you in the right direction to find diamond plate to suit your needs where-ever you are. We're in SE PA if that helps.
