Let us know what you consider to be the basic tools for your average do-it-yourselfer.

-Tool chest
-Ratchet/Socket sets (SAE and metric)
-Screwdrivers
-Cordless screwdriver/drill, bits
-Stepladder
-Jack and jackstands
-Creeper
-Air compressor
-Timing light
-Drop light(s)
-Plier set
-Etc.

For the do it yourselfer tools may differ. The size of jobs very from person to person and job to job. For instance, I have no engine tools. I have more sockets and wrenches than you could imagine. I have a compressor and lots of air tools but those are all new, thats one of the reasons I have all the sockets and wrenches.

To each is own.
Make sure you have a couple of hammers, mini sledge or two and a mallet.

I just picked up the Sears Craftsman 19.2 volt drill driver kit. It has the batteries that interchange with other tools like a flashlight and mini-saw.

I don't have the flashlight and saw yet - they are on my list to get next.

With 19.2 volts, I have plenty of power, and the drill has a variable torque setting that comes in handy.
