The work continues..I will finally finish this garage, I swear it!

Tonight I installed a 6900cfm, 36" blade whole house fan in the garage. I had a very small fan, but it was damaged by water in a recent tornado here, so I decided to replace it with something a little beefier. I found a site online (designed for greenhouses) that calculated the cfm required to exchange 100% of the air in a room in one minute, this fan exceeds my required cfm by about 400...so...should cool the place off nicely in the summer as well as evacuate minor dust and odors...

One thing I have already thought of is that I will need to add a screen door to my outside door on the garage so I can keep the skeeters out at night while still letting in plenty of air for circulation. I turned the fan on with all the doors closed...it sounded strained and in under 20 seconds that I had it on snuffed out the pilot light on the water heater <grin>

Shutters closed...you can see the repair where I removed the old fan..

Automatic shutters come open when you turn the fan on

Hate to get my hand in there!!!

I'll have to take photos of my screen door setup when I get home next month...basically, I bought rolls of fiberglass screen from Lowe's & cut to fit my 9'x7' doors...had a loop sewn in the bottom for a piece of conduit...installed snaps across top & sides along with a couple of zippers...I unzip them & roll the main piece up on the conduit & hang it over hooks at the top edges of the door to drive in or out...then, I roll it down, hook the conduit on hooks at the bottom & zip it closed.

These are great ideas - keep them coming!

Pretty sure I am going to go this way..

These folks also make them and the power version is just way too cool, but hard to justify the expense over the standard manual version.

I checked out those sites. Let us know which one you decide to go with.

I have the larson garage door screen ordered, it was $185 for a 8x7 door. It will be in a couple weeks from now and I will report back.
